About Futile Position

Hey! I’m glad you came to Futile Position, a web site devoted to indie games, comic books, board games, and tabletop roleplaying games. I know that may seem like a weird mish-mash of stuff to you, and that’s cool. It’s the stuff I love, and I trust there are other people out there that love that stuff too, or might love it if they came across the information. So, I write articles about a lot of stuff: roleplaying game reviews, roleplaying game session reports, board game reviews, board game session reports, indie game reviews, indie game news, comic book reviews, interviews with designers of all of those things, and whatever else strikes my fancy. This is something I do in my spare time because I love this stuff and I’d like to share it with other people. That’s what these hobbies are all about anyway: Connecting with other people. The site has already grown by leaps and bounds from when it started in April, 2012, and it’d be awesome if you decided to stick around.

So, I’m glad you came here. Honestly, it makes my day whenever someone comes to the site. It means the world to me. I’d love it if you decided to participate in the comments and come back and see what else I talk about and let me know about cool things that you find. I will tell you the tone of most of this stuff is going to be pretty positive in tone. That’s just kinda who I am. If I don’t enjoy something, I’ll tell you, but I will rarely completely bury something. Also, I buy most of this stuff, so I’m probably more likely to buy stuff I’m predisposed to. So it goes.

Here’s the other thing: If you make a video game, comic book, board game, or tabletop RPG I would probably love to cover it if it is awesome. I would especially love to have a review copy of your thing. The odds are good I would like to buy it from you, but I buy almost everything you see on the site out of my own pocket, which means that I can’t afford to buy everything I would like. So if you make a thing, contact me and we’ll talk. If you don’t want to send me free stuff, that’s cool. If what you are making is awesome, I’d probably still like to talk about it and I’d like it even more if you were willing to do an interview by e-mail or Skype or whatever.

So that’s it, Futile Position is just about me sharing what I love with you and, hopefully, you sharing some of that stuff, too. I hope you enjoy it and – if you don’t – come back tomorrow and see if you enjoy that. I’m confident you’ll find something awesome eventually. And, hey, if it’s awesome it’s probably on Futile Position.

Remember: Futile Position – When Nothing Else Works

So what is the Futile Position, anyway?

It’s a play on the term ‘fetal position’and I thought I was being very clever naming my site in such a matter. Basically, it is the position of an infant in the womb and is a position sometimes taken by people  who are in difficult situations. Early on, the tag line for the site was “Futile Position – When Nothing Else Works”. Mostly, I just liked the pun, honestly.

  1. Hey guys – we just relaunched our KS project, Storm the Castle!

As a content possibility, a suggestion could be to feature the game (its doing very well on KS). We’re also available for interviews.

    Thanks!

  2. I saw your post on Telepath Tactics and was wondering if you would be interested in writing a review for a light iPhone tactical RPG I just released, Solarian Tactics. If you are interested, let me know and I’ll definitely provide a promo code.

    Here’s a blurb about us:
Solarian Tactics is a turn-based tactical role playing game designed for the iPhone. Smartphone gamers currently face the choice between accessible games that are overly simple or strategic games with unwieldy controls. Solarian Tactics takes the best of both worlds to deliver a tactical RPG which offers quick yet strategic battles, a gripping story, and impressive upgrades to customize your team.

    And a little about me:
I used to work for Playfish as a Lead Product Manager for various Facebook games. Currently, I am at Stanford for business school. Instead of taking a “normal job,” I taught myself how to program and founded Haiku Games. It’s been a great ride so far, and I’m always happy to share more news about how we’re doing!

    Thanks!
    Andrew
