Aces and Eights: Shattered Frontier RPG – Bundle of Holding Mosies On Up with a Deal on the Old West RPG

Aces and Eights: Shattered Frontier is not a roleplaying game in which you play Bubba Ray Dudley (Yes, I know he was Bully Ray during that time. No I will not use that as his name.). That is its loss, but what it is is an Old West roleplaying game from Kenzer Co (of Hackmaster fame). The official web page says that Aces and Eights is designed for campaign play and also has a Quality of Beef chart for doing a cattle drive. My brain just melted in the best possible way upon learning that. Let’s say that Quality of Beef charts are something that get you excited, as well. I would say that you and I are oddly in tune, and that you might be interested to learn that you can get a whole bunch of Aces and Eights PDFs pretty cheap. Over on Bundle of Holding, you can get Aces & Eights: Player’s Guidebook, Showdown, the Shootist’s Guide and Bad Day at Buena Roca (a single player tutorial, which is an intriguing idea) for $8.95. If you up it to $21.22 (as I’m writing this. Admittedly more substantial, but aimed at GMs) you also get the Gamemaster’s Addendum, Rustlers & Townsfolk, Judas Crossing, and Rustlers & Townsfolk: Judas Crossing Edition. I really have too much to read right now, but I mean – seriously – there’s a Quality of Beef chart. So of course I went in on this thing. I’ll try to share my impressions sometime early next week, since I have no idea what I’m getting into. It doesn’t look to be a ‘light’ system, but that’s all the better for reading purposes. Anyway, it’s available right now over on Bundle of Holding. If you’ve played the game, I’d love to hear your thoughts on it. It looks like a very specific sort of thing, with pretty heavy rules. I expect, for me, it will be good reading but would be tough to get to the table.
