Monte Cook Releasing Numenera’s Cypher System as a Standalone Book, Rifts is coming to Savage Worlds, Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King Released, Car Crash Sisters – Automatic
Cypher System Solo Release
Monte Cook Games, publishers of Numenera and The Strange, will be releasing the RPG system that powers both of those games as a standalone book in August of this year, according to a post on their official Web site. The post explains that the two existing games use the ruleset in particular ways that were tied to the underlying settings. The book promises “rules for handling everything from starship battles to the rising dread of horror” as well as superheroes, new descriptors and foci and more NPCs and creatures for your characters to bash. It is priced at $59.99 in hardcover and $19.99 in PDF and is up for pre-order now. Those that pre-order the hardcover book from Monte Cook Games before June 26 will get the PDF for free.
Rifts Coming to Savage Worlds
I never played Rifts back in the day, but I was always enamored with it. It was the game that most seemed to capture the spirit of the free-form RPGs my friends and I used to sit around playing before we discovered ‘proper’ roleplaying. A world where everything awesome from every other story we had read or movie we had seen existed simultaneously. Super heroes and barbarians and robots and dinosaurs. So I was intrigued to see the announcement from PEG that Rifts will be coming to Savage Worlds. Savage Worlds definitely seems like a system that could adeptly handled the sort of genre-smashing madness that comes along with Rifts, since it basically already supports every genre known to humanity in separate products as it is. The core setting book, according to the post, will be ready in time for Christmas.
Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King Released
Super Dungeon Explore may look like it is a dungeon crawling game. It has all of the components for it. The miniatures (which are just rad, by the way) and the maps and the abilities and all of that. In reality, though, it is a game that seems to have more in common with the video game Gauntlet. It is hack and slash to its core. Now, Soda Pop Minis has released the Super Dungeon Explore: Forgotten King, a standalone expansion. As an aside, I see that this version is fully assembled and ready to play, which is not my recollection of my copy of the original game. In any case, Forgotten King is available for an MSRP of $99.99 and includes 58 miniatures and 6 double side tiles, as well as updated rules. For $14.95, owners of the previous edition and expansions can also get updated cards for every previous miniature, so you don’t lose access to the figures you already own.
