Leviathans Online Kickstarter tries to get the online version of the steampunk mini game off the ground
Leviathans: Monsters in the Sky from Catalyst Games was released about four months ago as a board game of massive, steam-powered airships engaging in an alternate-Earth battle for sky supremacy. Now, Hyper Hippo Productions would like to turn the well-received board game (it has an average rating on Board Game Geek of 7.94) into a full-scale 3D online game for tablets, browsers and mobile platforms. This, it seems, is no small undertaking, with Hyper Hippo Productions trying to raise $300,000 over the next 40+ days to fund Leviathans: Monsters in the Sky Online. The plan is to release the base game (with the French and British armies included, as with the Leviathans: Monsters in the Sky boxed set) and then add additional factions, units and weapons after the release of the game. I’ve always thought miniature gaming, if done right, would be something that could be amazing in the compute gaming space. While I’ve seen numerous tactical, turn-based games on PC that are great, I’ve not found one that just takes the rules of a miniatures game and makes it a computer game (which is what I want), so I’m thoroughly intrigued by the promise. Of course, it appears that Leviathans: Monsters in the Sky Online is early in its production and – at present there is not any footage of what the game might looks like (aside from an admittedly nice-looking) airship model, although Hyper Hippo Productions is promisng demo footage as the Kickstarter campaign progresses. The Kickstarter is well-updated, however, with seven updates up as I write this, including a sample of the score for Leviathans: Monsters in the Sky Online. If you would like more information about Leviathans: Monsters in the Sky, the miniatures game, you can go to the official Web page. More information about Leviathans: Monsters in the Sky Online is, as you would expect, available on Kickstarter.
