Top Cow Productions may not actually be able to help you write or draw the comics, but they may be able to give you your big break as a comic book writer or artist in their new 2012 fall talent hunt. The gist of the hunt is this: The people at Top Cow Productions are going to give four people (two artists and two writers) who are previously unpublished their chance to do real, professional comics (a one-shot or mini-series to start out) in 2013/2014, so if you’ve ever had aspirations of doing one of those two things (and my guess is that most of you have) this is your chance to take a shot at it. What do you have to do? Well, I would go read the rules, first of all, they’re going to be a better source for all that information than I am. With that said, what you have to do is send art samples or story samples (at least an eight page script) showing off your best work with a specific list of Top Cow’s characters and no one else. No original characters, no other characters, nothing. The deadline for the Top Cow talent search is December 31, 2012, and it doesn’t look like anything is getting judged before then, so you basically have three full months to put to work getting your best piece of art or script together involving the required characters and – if you need to – doing the appropriate reading so you have a good enough grasp of the characters to do the work you’ll probably need to do to win. Complete information about the talent hunt is available, including the submission form and a sample script, as well as the aforementioned rules. Other than that, if you want your shot to break into the comic book industry I would get to work if I were you. If you think it’s something you would love, there’s really no excuse to not give it a shot.
So, do you all think this talent hunt is as cool as I do? I mean, you don’t see a lot of chances for people that are complete unknowns to break into the industry (at least I don’t), so it’s pretty awesome that Top Cow is giving this a go. I’d love to hear your thoughts about it in the comments!
