Storm the Castle – Semi-cooperative board game where you play bad guys

Storm the Castle board game Kickstarter.Storm the Castle! from Giant Goblin Games is on Kickstarter right now.

Storm the Castle! is a semi-cooperative game for one to four players where you and your (presumed) friends play the marauding armies of bad guys all trying to, you guessed it, storm the castle. You and your cohorts are all trying to be the first to get inside the castle walls but if no one succeeds within eight turns then the game wins, and no one wants that. The playable armies in Storm the Castle!, according to the Kickstarter listing, are Dark Elves, Arcanists, The Green Tide  Giants, Pirate Orcs and Goblins, and Undead Horde, each with its own units, upgrades, abilities, and ways to win the game. Storm the Castle!, according to the designer, includes both basic and advanced rules and attempts to give players a lot of choices when playing the game, with siege machines, giants, and magic all listed as being in the mix. The rules aren’t up yet, but those interested to see how Storm the Castle! plays should check out Tom Vasel’s preview of the game, which is the best overview I have been able to find. Basically,  each turn proceeds with event cards being drawn based on how many walls are still standing in the castle and then each player spawning units and then moving them to try and attack the castle, eliminating walls and defenders along the way, as well as trying to capture points on the board which give bonuses, like more gold each turn. If you would like more information about Storm the Castle!, you can head over to the Kickstarter page. If you have any thoughts about the game, I’d love to hear from you in the comments!
