Eight Minute Empire – A fast game with set collection and area control

Eight Minute Empire. Board Game. Card Game. Ryan Laukat. Red Raven Games.Eight Minute Empire from Ryan Laukat and Red Raven Games is currently on Kickstarter.

Red Raven Games and Ryan Laukat are practically old hands at the Kickstarter game, having already successfully funded two board games and now bringing their third board game – Eight Minute Empire – to the service. Eight Minute Empire tells you what it is all about right there in the title: It is an empire building game that plays in roughly eight minutes. Supporting two to four players, Eight Minute Empire is played by each player selecting one of the available cards that allows them to either get actions that allow you to take over the map or goods that are worth points if you have them in sets at the end of the game. The goal is to force players to balance between choosing to use cards for area control and for set collection to make the game both play quickly, but stay tense. The rules are only about two pages, so you can check them out if you’d like the full rundown. While the game is not due until June, 2013, backers can receive a print and play copy of the game immediately after backing if they send Laukat an e-mail. Most board gamers I know can always use another quick playing game in their arsenal, and I’m not familiar with any fillers that are similar to what Eight Minute Empire does. If you would like more information about Eight Minute Empire, you can head on over to Kickstarter. A copy of the game is $20 and an expansion map is available for $10 more. You can also bundle Eight Minute Empire with Laukat’s previous games if you’re interested in doing so.
