Star Wars: The Card Game – Living Card Game info from FFG

Star Wars: The Card Game - Release date and details on new Star Wars Living Card Game from Fantasy Flight Games.Star Wars: The Card Game from Fantasy Flight Games has had a bit of tumultuous past, so I honestly wasn’t sure when we ever hear about the heavily anticipated Living Card Game again, or when it would see release. Truthfully, I expected we would get the game sometime next year but, instead, Fantasy Flight Games has announced that the Star Wars: The Card Game will be available in Q4 2012, which is sometime between now and the end of the year. It’s not quite a release date, but it’s more than we had.

Star Wars: The Card Game has been redesigned as a two-player game of direct conflict between good guys and bad guys, the way Star Wars was always meant to be. A cooperative card game makes since in terms of Lord of the Rings, but really never seemed like a very natural fit for the Star Wars license. Star Wars: The Card Game will use a Death Star shaped dial numbered between 0 and 12, with the Dark Side player advancing the dial each turn and trying to make matters worse for the good guys by launching attacks. Also good news, Star Wars: The Card Game is firmly entrenched in the original series, which means that you get to play your Star Wars card game with Luke and Leia and Vader the way it was intended to be. Customization will also be different in Star Wars: The Card Game, as Fantasy Flight Games has opted to only let players customize their decks through adding and removing blocks of cards, which should make for faster customization (I don’t engage in that much customization anyway, tending to play these games with default decks), although I expect to hear some teeth-gnashing from those that are afraid that they will lose flexibility. In any case, you should really check out the full release for all of the information about Star Wars: The Card Game from Fantasy Flight Games.
