Ring Runner – A top-down space shooter with a ton of options
Ring Runner caught my eye a little while back for its slick graphics. Since I originally saw Ring Runner, there’s been a lot of new information – most recently the video embedded above explaining the story for the game (which will run around 20 hours), which is under development for PC and Xbox 360. According to the official Ringer Runner page, it will feature 300 unique abilities (the abilities are bound to different pieces of equipment that you can put on your spaceship), 65 different spaceship hulls (broken down into five archetypes), a procedural AI, mutliplayer modes, and the promise of hundreds of hours of gameplay. The Ring Runnerdev log mentions that the primary inspiration for the game Silent Death Online from Mythic Entertainment, which was also a top-down space shooter. Also mentioned is the ‘horizontal development’ from Guild Wars, which concentrates not on making characters more powerful as they progress through the game but, instead, giving players more options. Ringer Runner is a game that certainly does not appear to be short on options given the level of customization promised by the developers. You can learn more about Ring Runner over on the official web page.
