Short Version: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 from IDW Publishing, Eastman, Waltz, and Kuhn picks back up after the Turtles managed to defeat (if only for now) the Shredder. The issue does a great job of showing the Turtles enjoying their victory, while also building up the threats that are looming against them. It’s a great issue to start the new arc.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 Story: Kevin Eastman & Tom Waltz
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 Script: Tom Waltz
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 Art: Andy Kuhn
At the end of the last issue, the Turtles had managed to repel the threat of the returning Shredder and so, at the beginning of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13, we find the Turtles relaxing and enjoying the peace brought about by their victory. Even Leonardo, the most serious of the Turtles is in a light-hearted mood, but Splinter knows that the defeat of the Shredder is only temporary and there are bigger threats around the corner for the Turtles. And so there are, as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 spends a lot of the issue dealing with the threats that are going to face the Turtles during this arc, as well as providing some more depth to Casey Jones’ story, as well as to Splinter. Honestly, it’s a great issue that looks like it will set up the third story arc of IDW’s series very nicely, with all of the characters put in interesting places in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13. I can’t wait to see how Splinter resolves the situation at the end of the book, but I am also looking forward to seeing the plans of our now multiple villains in the next issue. Oh, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 looks great. Kuhn’s art has great impact in the fight scenes and he also does some interesting stuff with perspective. It really does a lot to increase the quality of an already good series. I’m really excited after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 for the direction the series is going in. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #13 is available right now at your local comic book shop or from ComiXology for $3.99.
