Secrets of Grindea – A 16-bit style action RPG entering closed beta

Secrets of Grindea - An indie video game enters closed betaSecrets of Grindea, an indie video game that has been in development for quite some team. The game is one part satire (your character is judged purely on how big his collection of stuff is and you are on a hunt to obtain the most valuable rare drops in the kingdom), on part jaw-dropping 16-bit graphics, and one part The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (or maybe Secret of Mana), at least in terms of gameplay. Still, Secrets of Grindea is not a pure action game and will, instead, allow you to customize your character and develop through a skill system. Secrets of Grindea will have a main story as well as multiple side-quests and hidden secrets, all of which can be played with a total of four players. If any of that information about Secrets of Grindea sounds remotely interesting, then I have good news for you: Secrets of Grindea has entered closed beta testing and the developer is currently seeking applicants, so you can go to the official Secrets of Grindea web page to get more information. The game will also include trophies which, as you probably know if you have played a video game over the last – say – almost decade, are a series of challenges that give you a little pat on the back when you do certain tasks (although the developer for Secrets of Grindea notes that the players will also receive a reward for completing the challenges.

Secrets of Grindea certainly looks like it is shaping up quite nicely and more Zelda / Secret of Mana inspired games with gorgeous 16-bit graphics is certainly not a bad thing in my book. Of course, all of my references are to SNES games, sorry Genesis fans (the game system, not the Phil Collins band, sorry Peter Gabriel fans). You can express your old school gaming displeasure (and your preference of 16-bit system from back in a time when that meant something) down in the comments.
