Cyber Force returning for free from @Marc_Silvestri and @TopCow, Kickstarter already nearing $30,000

Top Cow and Image are trying to bring Cyber Force, their book of X-menesque mutants laced with cybernetics, back to life through Kickstarter. I remember the comic existing (it was part of the original run of Image Comics from Marc Silvestri), but I don’t think I ever read it it. Still, people are definitely pretty excited about it, since the project has already passed $28,000 of its $75,000 goal. Still, the reason people are excited is pretty easy to explain: They want to give away the first five full-color print issues for free in order to draw a new crowd into the comic book stores (and hope that they continue to buy Cyber Force in the future, I would assume).

While that is a great idea, I don’t know that it would be terribly interesting if they just brought everything back as it was i the beginning. Seriously, people may have fond memories of Cyber Force but the whole thing was very 90’s (which makes sense since the that’s when the original book was released). The new designs shown in the video look pretty great, actually. Silvestri describes the aesthetic as a “Bio-cybernetic-steampunk deal”. As for the reasons for bringing back Cyber Force, Silvestri explains: “The big idea is that for the first time in history, mankind and his intelligence is outpacing evolution. It takes nature thousands of years to adapt to changes and the things we’ve accomplished technologically in just the past 100 years have thrown our ability to evolve, and in turn survive, completely out of whack. In other words, we’re creating a world of wonders and conveniences that we could never hope to survive. This dilemma is at the heart of what CYBER FORCE is all about.” You can check out the Kickstarter for complete information, as well as quite a bit of the artwork for the new Cyber Force. I’m already interested to see what the stretch goals will be, since this thing is well and truly on track to crush its initial goal.
