Top Shelf Productions and Walking Dead sales on Comixology, Marvel Unlimited on sale, Keith Giffen taking over DC’s He-Man
Top Shelf Productions sale on Comixology, including Owly, and huge Walking Dead sale
If you like comics, you can check out the whole Top Shelf Productions sale. Of note in the sale are Jeff Lemire’s Essex County, Andy Runton’s absolutely delightful Owly, which is great for kids of all ages, and Harvey Pekar’s Cleveland. I mean, Owly is only $.99 a volume, and the first volume is over 150 pages. Let me make this clear: Look at that picture on the left side of your screen! Owly is freakin’ adorable and only $.99. On a related ridiculous comic book deal note, Comixology has special digital omnibus editions of Robert Kirkman’s moderately popular Walking Dead. Each of the three omnibuses (omnibii?) are $26.99 a piece and include 33 comics. That’s about $.82 each. Madness! I doubt you’ll find a better deal to catch up on Walking Dead any time soon (or ever, honestly). Both sales are running until July 15, 2012.
Marvel Unlimited Sale
Marvel Comics has their Digital Comics Unlimited Service 30 percent off until July 15, 2012. The service, which includes a bunch of comics (they say over 10,000) normally costs $59.99 a year, but is on sale for $41.92. If you would like to catch up on some Marvel back issues, there are certainly pricier ways to do it. Of course, there are some gaps in the coverage, including in the middle of arcs, but it’s a pretty great deal for essentially $3.50 a month.
New He-Man and the Masters of the Universe Writer
Well, it was a short run for James Robinson on DC Comics’ He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Effective immediately, Robinson has been replaced for issue 2 (which releases in September) with Keith Giffen, according to DC Comics. That does not inspire a lot of confidence in the creative direction of the book. I actually thought the first issue was pretty promising, but it doesn’t bode well for the Kingdom of Eternia when the writer is dumped after only one issue of a six issue mini.
